Jon Nield joins The Engineering & Construction Risk Institute - February 2018


I am pleased to announce that effective 1st. January 2019, Jon Nield will join ECRI as an Executive Advisor. Reporting to the undersigned, Jon will initially lead our planned Major-Project Special Interest Group in Europe with the possibility, as required, of providing coverage and support across the spectrum of our other operating Work Fronts.

I believe Jon's extensive Programme, Project, Risk Management, Commercial, Operational and Corporate experience over more than 30 years, including selection and optimisation of different Company's systems, procedures and cultural backgrounds for Best Practice, will provide significant insights and make a great contribution as we continue to realise ECRI's full potential.

Jon's range of EPC Delivery Excellence experiences have embraced the full range of Petroleum & Chemicals, Oil & Gas, Power, and Infrastructure business sectors.

Jon also knows ECRI and its workings well from the time he spent as Sponsor Representative for Foster Wheeler and then AmecFW, and the period he spent as a Member of ECRI's Board of Directors.

Jon Nield

From a 30-year career primarily with EPC contractor Foster Wheeler, Jon brings extensive project management and contract execution experience, successfully delivering complex full-scope high- profile global projects in the energy sector. He is a high-impact team player possessed of strong leadership skills and a strategic approach, with in-depth knowledge and expertise in commercial and project risk management. Jon is a results-orientated and internationally experienced individual whose deep operational experience is balanced with plc management exposure and capability.

Over the last 15 years, career highlights have included key leadership roles in Operations Management, Proposal Operations, Contract Operations, Project Risk Management and Project Delivery. Significant achievements have included:
  • Year-on-year growth in new business acquisition, exceeding new business booking targets.
  • Doubling of the UK operating unit’s contract operations resources, including the strategic initiative to grow capability in the India Execution Centre.
  • Active protection of Foster Wheeler’s contracting operations through the setting and enforcement of project risk management policy and procedure across all of FW’s operating units.
  • The integration of AMEC and Foster Wheeler’s approaches to project delivery, implementing the consistent application of best practice project management and contract execution across all phases of Amec Foster Wheeler’s business.
During his time leading contract operations, Jon was responsible (with contract P&L accountability) for the successful delivery of the company’s significant project portfolio including major EPC contracts in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, India , Thailand , Malaysia , Singapore and Australia.

Jon received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (with First Class honours) from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and a Master of Science in Project Management from Cranfield University School of Management in the UK.

He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. Jon has served on executive committees within both Foster Wheeler and Amec FW, on various Foster Wheeler and joint venture company boards, along with board membership of the Engineering and Construction Institute.
